Terms

Terms of use.

These terms cover enrolling in classes at Urumuri Académie and using this site. Creating an account means accepting them.

Last updated: 26 August 2026

The school

Urumuri Académie is an online school teaching Kirundi. Classes are live on Zoom, in small groups, 60 minutes each.

Legal name, business number and address: to be confirmed.

Who can enrol

Our classes start at age 5; the form turns away anyone younger.

A student under 18 cannot enrol alone. The account must be created by a parent or guardian, who contracts on their behalf and remains responsible for payment and for the student's conduct in class.

One parent can enrol several children from a single account. Each child gets their own record and their own subscription.

Enrolment currently requires a Canadian phone number.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself, and for telling us if you suspect someone else has it.

The details you give at enrolment must be accurate. Age in particular decides which group a student is admitted to: an enrolment made with a wrong age can be corrected or cancelled.

You can change your name, phone, language and class times yourself from your profile. The sign-in email and the age are not directly editable - write to us.

The subscription

One price: CA$50 per month, per student. A parent enrolling three children pays three subscriptions.

The subscription gives access to every class in the student's group that month, plus the course materials. There is no minimum commitment: you stop whenever you like, simply by not renewing.

Payment

Payment is by Interac e-Transfer, outside the platform. The destination address and the security question to use are shown in your dashboard once the account is created.

The account stays locked until we have received and confirmed the transfer by hand. Confirmation is not automatic, so allow some time.

We collect no credit-card or bank-account details.

If a transfer cannot be confirmed, we email you the reason and the account stays locked until it is sorted out.

Renewal and expiry

The subscription does not auto-renew and you are never charged automatically. To carry on, you send a new transfer at the end of the period.

Access ends on the expiry date. A renewal sent early is added to the time you have left; a renewal sent after expiry starts from the date it is confirmed.

Classes

Groups are formed by age band: 5-6, 7-11, 12-17, and 18 and over. A student can only pick a time slot that matches their age.

Times shown on the site are Ottawa time.

The Zoom link appears 10 minutes before the class starts and stops working at the scheduled end time. It appears only while the subscription is active.

You can change your time slot from your profile, at no cost, within the groups that match the student's age.

Missed classes and refunds

A missed class is not refunded and not carried over. That is the trade-off of an unlimited monthly subscription rather than a pack of sessions: you are paying for the month's access, not for the individual class.

If your group meets more than once a week, a student who misses one class can join the others at no extra cost.

Nothing in these terms reduces the rights Quebec's Consumer Protection Act gives you.

If the school cancels a class

A class may occasionally be cancelled. You are told when that happens, and the absence is not counted against the student.

Because the subscription covers every class that month, a class cancelled by the school does not reduce your access to the other classes in your group.

Conduct in class

Classes bring children together. We expect every student, and the parent alongside them, to be respectful towards the teacher and the other students.

We may suspend or close an account for disruptive or disrespectful behaviour, for sharing access with someone who is not enrolled, or for non-payment. We always explain why.

Course materials

Materials shared with you are for the personal use of the enrolled student. They may not be redistributed, published or resold.

The content of this site - text, images, teaching material - belongs to Urumuri Académie.

Availability

We do our best to keep the site and the classes available, without being able to guarantee it. The service rests on outside providers - hosting, database, Zoom - whose outages are not ours to control.

Liability

Urumuri Académie is a small school. If something goes wrong with the service, our liability does not exceed what you paid for the current month.

Nothing in these terms sets aside a liability that cannot be set aside under Quebec law.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms; the date at the top of this page marks the latest version. A change to the price or to the refund rules will be announced by email before it takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law applicable in Quebec, and any dispute falls to the courts of Quebec.
