Welcome to Urumuri Académie

Learning Kirundi means claiming a language, a culture and a pride.

We pass on Kirundi, Burundian culture and Burundian values to the children of the diaspora, so they grow up with joy, confidence and pride in their roots.

Why we exist

Passing on a heritage.

Urumuri Académie grew out of a deep wish: to pass Kirundi on to the children of the Burundian diaspora, so they can talk with their family, discover the richness of their culture, and grow up proud of where they come from.

Burundi

Let us dream of a future where our Burundian children growing up in Canada can stay connected to their roots through our mother tongue, Kirundi.

Did you know?

“Urumuri” means light in Kirundi.

Amahoromeans peace, and it is also the word exchanged every morning.
Murahomeans hello, said when arriving at someone's home.
Karyendais the sacred drum of Burundi, the sounding heart of the country.

Why choose Urumuri Académie?

Far more than a language.

At Urumuri Académie we don't only teach a language. We help every child build a lasting bond with their family, their culture and their identity.
